Highflow Filter Housings

A High Flow Filter Housing is a large-capacity, pressure-rated vessel designed to hold specially designed high flow filter cartridges. These cartridges have a larger diameter (6 inch) than standard filters (2 ½ inch), allowing them to process high volumes of liquid with fewer elements. The housing is engineered to reduce the housing footprint and reduce maintenance time because of less cartridges to change.

High Flow housings significantly reduce the number of cartridges needed for large systems, lowering labour and replacement costs. They also offer:

• Higher flow rates per filter
• Reduced system downtime when changing filters
• Smaller overall housing footprint

These housings are ideal for industries that require high throughput and consistent quality, including:

• Water treatment: For pre-filtration and RO protection
• Power generation: For cooling tower water and boiler feed
• Food and beverage: For product water, ingredients, and final filtration

Materials are chosen based on application demands and chemical compatibility.

Common options include:

• 316L stainless steel for corrosive and hygienic environments
• 304 stainless steel for general-purpose use
• GRP sea water or brackish water conditions.

Yes, when constructed from materials like stainless steel for the highflow filters as well as the housings, temperatures up to 300°C can be handled.

Always check the specific housing rating, as temperature resistance also depends on the type of seals used.

Most models are designed to operate at pressures of 10 bar or below. It is not common to find these housings available for higher ratings. However with boiler condensate applications higher pressure ratings are used.

• Vertical housings are easier for draining and changing cartridges and are often preferred where space allows.
• Horizontal housings are used in low-ceiling or restricted-access installations. The orientation depends on flow design, maintenance access, and site layout.

Regular maintenance includes:

• Monitoring differential pressure to track filter service life
• Replacing filter cartridges at the recommended pressure drop, typically 2.5 bar (35 psi)
• Regularly inspecting O-rings, seals, and housing integrity at every filter changeout
• Cleaning the vessel internally if fouling or scaling occurs
• Lubricating seals during reassembly to ensure leak-free operation

With correct operation and maintenance, high-quality stainless steel housings can last 10+ years. Lifespan depends on the operating conditions, cleaning protocols, and chemical exposure. Plastic housings may have shorter life expectancy due to the corrosive nature of sea water or brackish water applications.
